Somdech Phrachao Phinangther Chaofah Galayani Vadhana Krom Luang Narathivat Rajanagarindra (H.R.H. Princess Galayani Vadhana)
Born on May 6th, 1923, H.R.H. Princess Galayani Vadhana was the first child of H.R.H. the Prince of Songkhla and Somdech Phra Srinagarindra, the Princess Mother. She graduated in Chemistry from the Faculty of Science at the University of Lausanne in Switzerland. She also took classes in subjects of interest to her, for example, Public Health, Philosophy, Literature, Psychology and Education.
Princess Galyani Vadhana contributed a great deal to Chulalongkorn University in terms of teaching, promoting educational development and the operations of different work units. She was the third Royal Lecturer at Chulalongkorn University, teaching French in the Faculty of Arts from 1952 to 1958 and initiating the establishment of the Association of French Teachers in Thailand in 1977. In its early stages, the Office of the Association was located in the Faculty of Arts and the Princess herself served as its President from 1997 to 1983.
Princess Galayani Vadhana provided assistance to the Faculty of Veterinary Science in many ways, for example, by providing tools and equipment for animal care, supporting the construction of the Emergency Building for Animal Treatment, providing funds for the treatment of sick animals without owners and stray dogs and providing scholarships and financial support for educational tours and research to faculty members.
The Princess’ interest in classical music led her to serve as a Patron of the Chulalongkorn University Symphony Orchestra. During her life time, she came to its concerts as a way of showing moral support to its members. She is considered to be one of the most important patrons of Chulalongkorn University.
